Sports massage therapy forms an important part of an athlete’s pre and post- and inter-event training strategies. There’s nothing worse than going in to have all your aches and pains ironed out and you encounter a Therapist who adds extra pain or gives you such a gentle rub that you doze off. Sure, it’s relaxing, but a true sports massage should involve vigorous and deep muscle stimulation – so in the end you feel that you have been worked on and for the better.
There are key differences in some technical aspects and aims of a normal massage versus sports therapy. A normal massage is more superficial compared to the deep stimulation of a sports massage. The aim of a normal massage is to alleviate general stress in order to increase circulation and relaxation, working along the muscle surface to relax the body. Whereas a sports massage is more specific, working deeper on muscle fibers with a specific athletic enhancement goal.
A sports massage is sought after to alleviate after training, of continual training, actions that tighten the muscles, spasms and stiffness that may be in person that is not active. Anyone can benefit from a sports massage, however if you are ill, don’t have acute inflammation and are not adverse to being touched. If you don’t suffer with any latter then Sports Therapy Massage is the way to sort you out.
The effects of massage are accumulative, therefore the more regularly you attend sessions the more benefit you will gain. Most elite athletes get at least one massage per week. For most amateur athletes who still take their sport and training seriously or regular gym-goers, once a week to once a fortnight is recommended. For most people who do regular light exercise once every two, three or four weeks is usually sufficient.
I am a 56-year-old fitness fanatic, who has been in the sports industry for many years. I have 2 Children and 5 Grandchildren. I am very active with Cycling, Running, Swimming, Hiking, Gyming and enjoy the outdoors. I think it makes a huge difference when someone is passionate about their job, sports and well being. And passionate is exactly what I am. I don’t think Sports Massage Therapy is merely “a Job”. I am here to help all people reach their dreams and goals, whatever they may be. I am a Personal Trainer Who Studied at Loots Academy many moons ago 1989 -1990. I am a qualified Sports Massage Therapist got a Level 4 Certificate in 2000 from VTCT and a Level 3 Diploma in 2003 from ITEC. I am also a Qualified Chef which helps when training clients to reach their goals whether it is to put on weight or to loose cause eating the correct foods is 80% of your goal.

Sean is a super hero!! I have a hamstring injury that I’ve been struggling with for years. I stumbled upon Sean’s site while Googling my symptoms as I was convinced it was not just my hamstring but other things too, and made an appointment to see him last week. He did a quick assessment and immediately jumped in with the treatment. After just 1 treatment I was pain free for the 1st time in years. Had a much needed session with Sean on Friday and let me tell you – it’s not always a very relaxing massage but the feeling after is well worth it.
